This program is established to enhance education and research activities at
Kumamoto University by employing students in the Doctoral Course of the Graduate School (excluding students in the Master’s Course and the School of Law; hereinafter,the “Doctoral Course”) as a research assistant or teaching assistant (hereinafter,“RA, etc.”) and providing them with financial support for half of the annual tuition fee (267,900 yen) as a reward.
1.Eligible students and application procedures
The details should be confirmed in an attached sheet titled “Guidelines for Kumamoto University PhD Work-Scholarship (KWS).”
<Notice>
* Application is not allowed for students who are employed as an RA under external funds.
* Application is not allowed for students who are employed by Kumamoto University and earn (or are expecting to earn) a salary equivalent to half of the annual tuition fee (267,900 yen).
* Students are not able to apply for both this program (KWS) and the doctoral course scholarship program (KDS).
However, students who are not accepted by the doctoral course scholarship
program (KDS) are allowed to apply this program(KWS).
2.Deadline and place to submit application documents
Documents to be submitted:
1)Application form (printed on both sides)
2)Research plan (A simple description is sufficient.)
3)Research report (submission by end of employment period)
◎ Application documents must be the form for AY2018.
◎ Prepare your seal, bankbook, student I.D. card, and Resident card
(only if you are an international student) in advance, because these are needed for employment procedures soon after applying.
Deadline: Tuesday, May 1, 2018
(However, For students who apply for this program after failing to be selected in the tuition waiver program for the fall semester, deadline is Friday, July 13, 2018.)
For students who are not accepted by the doctoral course scholarship program(KDS),deadline is Friday,July 27,2018

3.Time of Selection
For the spring semester: early July (scheduled)
4.Other notices
1) Application documents must be the form for AY2018.
2) After confirming the application requirements, students who want to apply for the program should prepare the necessary documents, which must be checked by an academic advisor, and submit them.
3) As a rule, an RA, etc is scheduled to work for 105 hours during the spring semester. However, the working hours may be adjusted depending on the hours planned to be allocated to him/her by an academic advisor, employment records under similar programs at Kumamoto University, and other conditions.
4) For students who apply for this program after failing to be selected in the tuition waiver program for the spring semester, deadline is Friday,July 13, 2018.
5) The employment of an RA, etc is provided separately for the spring semester and fall semester. Students who are employed for the spring semester and who want to also apply for the fall semester are required to make a new application. In such a case, only an application form should be submitted.
