Mission of the School of Medicine

The mission of the School of Medicine is to educate students to become medical doctors and researchers who have rich humanity and high ethical standards, and pursue and achieve social missions in the medical sciences and related fields.

AP: Admission Policy

To achieve our mission, the School of Medicine is seeking people who meet the following criteria:

  • Persons who can understand the feelings of sick people and their families.
  • Persons who have a superior sense of cooperation in playing a central role of team-based medical care.
  • Persons who are interested in community medicine, and have a will to contribute to improving the health of local inhabitants.
  • Persons who possess a strong sense to explore science, and have enthusiasm to develop their medical scientific research with an international outlook.
  • Persons who have a broad view of society and a deep interest in health care and the welfare of local and global communities.
  • Persons who possess basic academic ability to learn up-to-date knowledge in the rapidly progressing medical science fields and medical care and who have the desire to continue self-learning throughout their life.

CP: Curriculum Policy

To achieve our mission, the School of Medicine has established "Education Outcomes of the School of Medicine of Kumamoto University," which stipulates the abilities that students of the School of Medicine should acquire before graduation. The Education Outcomes consist of seven categories of core education outcomes (A: Rich humanity, B: Basic examination ability, C: Self-training and professionalism, D: Practice of team-based and trustworthy medical care, E: Medical scientific research, F: International outlook, G: Community medicine and social contributions) and 50 education outcome subcategories within the seven categories. The curriculum of the School of Medicine is designed to assist students in studying and gradually achieving education outcomes as they progress to the following year and complete all the education outcomes before graduating.

DP: Diploma Policy

To achieve our mission, the School of Medicine has established "Education Outcomes of the School of Medicine of Kumamoto University." The degree of Bachelor of Medicine is awarded to those who have earned the required credits by completing the course of education designed to achieve the seven categories of core education outcomes (A: Rich humanity, B: Basic examination ability, C: Self-training and professionalism, D: Practice of team-based and trustworthy medical care, E: Medical scientific research, F: International outlook, G: Community medicine and social contributions) and 50 education outcome subcategories within the seven categories, and who have completed the education outcomes.
