Doctoral Course Scholarship Program (KDS) [Quota for Privately-funded International Students(only for New students
enrolled in October and prospective holders in first semester(enrolled
in October,2014))]

We have decided to establish, as part of the Kumamoto University Graduate
School
Doctoral Course Scholarship Program (KDS), which has been in operation
since FY
2010, a “Quota for Privately-funded International Students” for international
students
who are studying at their own expense at Graduate School at Kumamoto University,
and who have participated in projects which have been intensively supported
for the
purpose of establishing internationally outstanding centers of excellence
or in projects
that apply correspondingly. This quota will be applied to relevant privately-funded
international students who have been enrolled since May 1, 2011.
1.Eligible students for the “Quota for Privately-funded International
Students(only for New students enrolled in October and Prospective
scholarship holders in first semester (enrolled in October,2014))”
Privately-funded International Students who are enrolled in Kumamoto
University Graduate School Doctoral Courses as of October 1, 2015,
and who participate in core research (including Core Research Projects
of the Graduate Schools of Kumamoto University) (including students
who participate in the Global COE program in the past)
However, this excludes cases involving another scholarship program where
the
holders are prohibited from receiving another scholarship.

Financial Support Programs” attached to this document.
* Note
1) Core research funded by a large-scale competitive grant includes research
adopted for a large-scale fund by such organizations as Core Research
for
Evolutional Science and Technology (CREST), “Sakigake” Project, New
Energy
and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Funding Program
for Next Generation World Leading Researchers(NEXT Program), MEXT and
MHLW. If you are an privately-funded international students who belongs to
multiple COEs (ex. CREST and Core Research Project A/B), please enter all the
COEs in the “letter of recommendation” (form 3).
2) An applicant for this program (KDS) cannot apply for Research Assistants
(RAs)
through the Kumamoto University PhD Work-Scholarship (KWS). However,
if your
application is not approved for this program (KDS), you can apply for
KWS.
The application period for KWS for non-approved applicants for KDS will
be
posted separately.
2.Amount of scholarship:
【New students enrolled in October】
535,800 yen (amount equivalent to annual tuition)
(*However,the amount of scholarship to be provided in this year will be
half the amount of annual tuition (267,900 yen). The remaining
amount (267,900 yen) will be provided next year.)
【Prospective scholarship holders in first semester(enrolled in October,
2014)】
267,900 yen (half the amount of annual tuition)
3.Documents to be submitted (only for applicants from the Graduate
School of Medical Sciences); Only printed documents will be accepted.
Please refrain from sending documents such as application forms via
e-mail.

4.Submission deadline and where to submit (only for applicants from the
Graduate School of Medical Sciences)
Submission deadline: November 27 (Fri.), 2015 (Be sure to submit the
application by the deadline.)
Where to submit: Student Affairs Section, Graduate School of Medical

(at Medical Educational & Library Building 3F)
5.Number of students recommended candidates and date of selection
Number of candidates : approximately 3 students
Date of selection : February(scheduled)
6.Other matters to be noted
1) Please enter your achievements in the “Confirmation List of Documents
(Score Card)” in the documents to be submitted by scoring your academic
achievements as stipulated in the attachment, “How to score research
performance of KDS candidates”.
2) Students who wish to apply for this program should prepare the necessary
documents after confirming their eligibility and submit them with a
Letter of
Recommendation from their supervisors. The reason for recommending the
student in form 3 should be entered by a representative of each field,
which
also applies to the reason to recommend the student in form 1 of the
application
form. Approval of the applications of eligible privately-funded international
students who serve as the representative of their respective COEs will
be
confirmed by the Student Affairs Section.
