On July 8, 2026 (Wednesday), the S-HIGO Program Cutting-Edge Research Seminar, hosted by the Institute of Molecular Embryology and Genetics at Kumamoto University, was held under the coordination of Associate Professor Arima from our department.

Associate Professor Arima invited Dr. Nobuaki Fukuma, Associate Research Scientist at the Department of Cardiology, Columbia University Medical Center, as the seminar’s speaker.

Dr. Fukuma delivered a talk titled “Forgotten no more: sex differences and right heart remodeling in heart failure.” His lecture provided deep insights into sex differences in heart failure and mechanisms of right ventricular remodeling, representing the forefront of cardiovascular research. He also offered valuable career advice and perspectives for young researchers and students.

Faculty members and students listened with keen interest as Dr. Fukuma shared cutting-edge findings in the field.

The Q&A session was highly engaging, with discussions continuing beyond the scheduled time and creating an energetic atmosphere throughout the venue.

Following the seminar, a lunch meeting was held in our laboratory. Participants enjoyed casual conversations with Dr. Fukuma over bento lunches, exchanging ideas in a relaxed setting.

Surrounded by attendees, Dr. Fukuma shared behind-the-scenes stories of his research and experiences from his life abroad—topics that could not be fully covered during the seminar itself. The informal environment fostered meaningful and lively discussions.
