Understanding what is required to maintain a healthy body, what state the body enters during disease, and how it can be restored to health is a fundamental question in medicine and the life sciences. Addressing this question requires experimental systems that recapitulate selected tissue functions outside the body and enable efficient analysis under diverse conditions. Our laboratory develops unique analytical platforms that integrate microfluidic and organoid technologies with laboratory automation to generate large numbers of three-dimensional tissue models, perturb them through compound treatment or genetic loss-of-function, and analyze their responses at high throughput.
We further investigate the phenomena identified through these platforms using molecular biological and biochemical approaches, aiming to advance an integrated research workflow from tool development to mechanistic analysis of biological processes and, ultimately, drug discovery applications.
