At the Department of Morphological Biology, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kumamoto University, our research is grounded in a developmental and anatomical perspective that asks how the shapes of organs and tissues are formed and what biological histories they retain. Building on expertise cultivated in the field of cardiovascular medicine, we have expanded our research scope beyond the heart and vasculature to encompass all organs and a wide range of diseases, aiming to elucidate how developmental structural formation and environmental responses influence adult disease states.
Furthermore, through interdisciplinary collaboration with engineering and semiconductor sciences, we are establishing novel analytical platforms for non-destructive, three-dimensional evaluation of organ structures, with the goal of achieving integrative disease understanding and advancing new therapeutic and drug discovery strategies.
