Welcoming Message from Vice President of Kumamoto University

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of Kumamoto University, we are honored to host the joint symposium of 22nd International Kumamoto Biomedical Life Science Symposium, 3rd Japan-China Cooperative Life Science Symposium, and Asia-Africa International Network Symposium in Kumamoto of JSPS Asia and Africa Science Platform Program to be held in October 23-24, 2006 in Kumamoto, Japan. 

As a frontier discipline in life sciences, Immunology has been growing and developing rapidly in both basic and applied aspects.  The advancement now explains many medical phenomena and defense mechanisms in the infectious diseases and has contributed enormously for the human health cares.  However, we still are facing to many severe infectious diseases that threaten our health as pandemic infections.  We need to exchange our knowledge and techniques of studies and treatments in such severe infectious diseases and help each other for the world wide level, especially in Asian and African countries where there are still many kinds of dangers of suffering with life-threatening infectious diseases.  The fields of infectious immunity, the integration of Oriental and Western Medicines, the vaccination and the immunoinformatics are appropriately emphasized.  The Congress is an opportunity for us to share our knowledge and views, to promote mutual understandings and collaboration, through these activities, to strengthen our friendship.

The Congress is jointly hosted by JSPS, Faculty of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kumamoto University, and is also supported by Kaketsuken, Higo-IIku Aid, and Kumamoto Prefectural Government.

The Congress venue is in the Parea Congress Hall, Kumamoto City surrounded with the best hotels.  Kumamoto, a city with full of vitality, is one of the most beautiful cities in Japan surrounded with many beautiful places of mountains, islands, and sea-side.  Mt. Aso is an active volcano with the widest caldera, for which you need to visit and see in your trip.  There is an old castle, famous as one of the most beautiful castles with original structures and shapes in Japan.
